At least 1227 Muslims were killed with another 1801 suffering injuries. These casualties were inflicted by Muslims, non Muslims and unknown entities. Shockingly, 85.1% of Muslims were killed by other ‘Muslims’. The figure for this month is relatively lower than that of July where 1332 Muslims were killed with another 801 injured; a 7.9% decrease.
Of the 1227 Muslims
that were killed, 521 (42.5%) were civilians, 698 (56.9%) were combatants and 8
(0.7%) were not specified at the time of compilation.

Civilian deaths
521 civilians were killed in the month of August; this represents 42.5% of all deaths down from 647 (48.6%) recorded in July. Saudi Arabia killed the highest number of civilians in August killing 204 Muslims and injuring 216 others. In other words, Saudi Arabia killed 39.2% of all civilians and 16.6% of all Muslims. Extremist groups killed 178 civilians (34.2% of all civilian deaths). Of these groups, the Taliban killed the highest number of civilians killing at least 95 civilians. In the month of July, Daesh killed the highest number of civilians killing 528 civilians (81.6% of all civilian deaths for that month).
Injuries
94.4% of those injured were civilians with Israel injuring the highest number of civilians (910 or 50.5%).
Kills by countries
Different countries across the world killed at least 680 Muslims (55.4% of all deaths). Afghanistan killed the highest number of Muslims with 205 as they continue their fight against the Taliban, Saudi Arabia came second with 204 kills all of which have been identified as civilians.
Kills by Extremists
Extremists groups killed a total of 417 (34% of all deaths) Muslims (civilians, security forces and other militants). His is down from 826 (62%) recorded in July.
Most struck country
The most struck country in the month of August was Yemen; suffering attacks from both Yemeni forces, Saudi backed militants and the Saudi lead coalition. The impoverished war ravaged country suffered 18 attacks. The country also suffered the highest civilian casualties with 204 (39.2% of all civilian deaths). The most struck country in July was Iraq, the country witnessed 14 attacks.
Deadliest day
The deadliest day in the month of August was the 13th day. The Taliban launched an attack to take the city of Ghazni. Official figures confirmed that a total of 439 (35.8% of all deaths) people were killed in the battle. The battle lasted about five days.
Unclaimed attacks
10 attacks across the
Muslim world were not claimed by any entity, these attacks lead to the deaths
of 129 Muslims (10.5% of all civilian deaths) and injured 157 others. This is
up from 14 unclaimed attacks in July which lead to 67 deaths and 125 injuries.
The deadliest unclaimed attack came on 15th August in Afghanistan
when a bomb went off at an educational center killing 49 people and injuring 60
others. The second deadliest unclaimed attack came on 3rd August.
Unknown assailants attacked a Shiite worship center with bombs and guns killing
40 worshipers and injuring 80 others.
