At Least 1350 Muslims Were Killed In August

The month of August was far bloodier for Muslims of the world; at least 1350 Muslims were killed in the month. Of these figure, 493 (36.5%) were civilians and 857 (63.5%) were combatants fighting for different armed groups and

countries.

The month of August witnessed a 19% decrease in civilian deaths and a 53% rise in combatant deaths compared to July. Generally, there was a 29.2% increase in deaths from 1045 in July to 1350 in August.

Also, at least 1339 Muslims were injured in various forms of attacks. 1284 of the injured were civilians, this represents 95.9% of all the injured. 55 of the injured were combatants; this is just 4.1% of the injured.

In the month of August of the last year (2018), at least 204 Muslims were killed.

Deadliest Day

The deadliest day for the month of August was the 29^th, attacks by the UAE, the Syrian and Russian governments, and the Syrian Democratic Forces killed a total of 308 Muslims. The deadliest attack of that day happened when the UAE launched airstrikes against Saudi backed militants in the port city of Aden as the rift between Saudi Arabia and the UAE over Yemen’s resources deepened. 300 Saudi backed militants were killed in the airstrikes.

Civilian Casualties

493 (36.5%) of Muslims killed in August were civilians, another 1284 civilians were injured. 95.9% of the injured were civilians. The Syrian government killed the most number of civilians; at least 101 civilians were killed by the regime in August. His represents 20.5% of all civilian deaths. This is the second month in a row the Syrian government is killing the highest number of civilians. In July, the Syrian government killed at least 170 civilians that represented 27.9% of all civilian deaths. In July, attacks by the government also left 24 civilians injured. Israeli attacks on Palestinians caused the highest number of injuries among civilian. 313 civilians were injured by Israeli forces; this represents 24.4% of all civilian injuries.

Combatant Casualties

857 combatants were killed in the month of August; this represents 63.5% of all deaths. The UAE killed the highest number of combatants killing 300 Saudi-backed militants.

Kills By Countries

Countries killed 911 Muslims in August; this represents 67.5% of all deaths. 144 (15.8%) of Muslims killed by countries were civilians. Among countries, the UAE killed the highest number Muslims with 300 (32.9%). The deadliest attack by a country came on the 29^th when the UAE launched airstrikes on Saudi-backed militants in Yemen, the attack killed 300 people.

Kills By Armed Groups

At least 245 Muslims were killed by different known armed groups; this represents 18.1% of all deaths for the month. Attacks by armed groups also left 419 Muslims injured. Of all the 245 Muslims killed by armed groups, 171 (69.8%) were civilians. The deadliest attack by an armed group came on the 18^th when a Daesh bombing at a wedding in Afghanistan killed 63 civilians and injured 182. Among armed groups, Daesh killed the highest number of Muslims with 74 all of which were civilians. Attacks by Daesh also left 191 civilians injured. A total of 9 groups were confirmed to have carried out attacks in August; they are: Daesh, Taliban, Libyan National Army, Al Qaeda, Boko Haram, Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, ISWAP, Jabhat Fateh Al Sham, and Syrian Democratic Forces

Unclaimed Attacks

There were a total of 31 attacks that were not claimed by any country or group; such attacks killed at least 127 Muslims 90 of which were civilians. Attacks by unknown entities also left 116 Muslims injured. The deadliest unclaimed attack came on the 31^st when missiles fired at a militant base in Syria killed no fewer than 45 militants.

Most Struck Country

Most recorded attacks took place in Syria. No fewer than 81 attacks were recorded across the country in the month of August, six more than July which saw 75 attacks across the country that has been at war since 2011. Syria was also the most struck country in July.
